A Great Date in New York for Adventurous Lovers

Going out on a date does not have to follow the old regular routine of dining at a romantic restaurant followed by a Nicholas Sparks movie. Fortunately, for outdoorsy couples, there is no need to succumb to tradition because of the great nature options offered in New York. Let’s zero in on Hudson Valley’s Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park, which any thrill-seeking person will love for its variety of activities. Whether it’s hiking, boating, or picnicking, outdoor enthusiasts will love the 14,086-acre park that boasts of 79 campsites should you wish to do overnight camping.

Canopus Lake

You can choose to spend an hour or the whole day at Canopus Lake, and you’re sure to have a relaxing time with your partner just lying around on its large, sandy beach. The water is clear and there are no weeds or algae that can take the fun out of swimming. Expect a sandy bottom as you dip your feet into the lake as long as you stay within the swimming area. Boating and fishing are also popular activities on the lake; row boats are available for rent at the southern end of lake along Route 301.

Kayaking Tour

Get on board a kayak through the services of Atlantic Kayak Tours, a large and experienced kayak outfitter specializing on the Hudson Valley. They offer up to 40 kayak tours that are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced kayakers, as well as other multi-day programs.  For first-timers, you can try out the Annsville Easy or Annsville Shourt Tour that should cover the Hudson Valley for at least two hours. The course is pace-friendly to new paddlers as you work on your kayaking skills.

Skiing on the Snowshoe Hare

Fahnestock’s Winter Park has a warming lodge and ski rentals that are available on a first-come first-served basis. The park is open December through March, and offers sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing for all ages. Check out the NY Parks website for entry and rental fees. After you’re done with your snow adventures, sip some hot chocolate in front of the outdoor fireplace before trying out the next winter sport!

Staying at a Luxury B&B

Of course, having fun outdoors should not crimp your bedside manners. A perfect venue for your mountain adventure is checking into a luxurious bed and breakfast that offers a view of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River. Wake up to the smell of fresh coffee and gourmet breakfast to warm up your empty stomachs. Nothing comes closer to a best date than a room with a beautiful view, fireplaces, and whirlpool tubs to boot!
